In my head I keep rewriting what I want to say for this post
But I guess there’s no better way than being honest, you know?
Early in July, Gen asked if I could shoot their wedding
We were so sure we even agreed to do a really cool pre wedding
But late in July, she bumped into the portfolio of a good friend, Helium Hearts
I really admired that she was straightforward with me and asked honestly
If she can hire him instead, I said, without second thoughts, “Of course!”
As someone who’s part of the wedding community
Nothing makes me happier than when people figure their way
To the suppliers who they feel will suit their style too
I could be worried but I honestly felt glad that Gen told me about it
So I told her it was all okay and asked if she can still let me shoot her wedding
On my freaking iPhone and iPhone alone
Luckily Marlon agreed and Gen agreed
So all of these pictures from yesterday are taken by nothing than
The mighty, mighty iPhone…
I drove early to Maribago Bluewaters but not before passing by Starbucks in Mactan Newtown for a bagel.
It’s been a while since I shot here.
After around 2 or 3 years, I used my Chuck Taylors again. It was painful on the feet.
Here’s Gen getting her make-up done. It was our first meeting too.
The iPhone’s holding up really well so far.
This was a reunion of some sort.
Really glad Marlon, her wife Mildred along with Jake, Kat and the rest of Team Panda were all game with me being around with my phone.
I could have brought a real camera but nahhh.
And I actually didn’t regret not brining one.
I had a lot of fun with my iPhone.
But maybe I could get a rig for it so it doesn’t look so amateur.
Everybody was terribly busy but baby just wanted to eat.

It was a challenge shooting in too much sunlight.
But I made the most of what I had.
I’m glad I found this wall. Now we can Salt and Bleach a little bit. You know?
Don’t get me wrong, one can pretty much use the iPhone to cover a wedding but a real camera still does a way, way better job.
But that doesn’t take away the fact that your iPhone is a story telling machine if you had the right mindset.
I think I used the portrait mode here. By this time, Gen was pretty much acclimated to shooting. She was terribly shy at first.

Once in a while I asked Marlon or Mildred if I can take pictures.
So, if you knew me, you’d know I’d insert someone in that greenery. Gen was a victim. Thank You Gen.
Have I convinced you yet?
These two already got married in the US so they opted a first look for their renewal. In bisaya, “pirmirong first look sa pagtinan-away.”
First looks are always a breathe of fresh air even if I’m very traditional.
After that we took a few more photos.

Look at your hands and smile that you two figured out your way to each other despite the billions of people in this world.

The water was really clear I would have jumped.
Everybody was excited to see the bride.
If you look out, you’d see the tree. I love how it stands out.
But the iPhone is very limited in these kinds of sitation. A telephoto lens is always a good idea.

Neil’s papa officiated the ceremony.
Gen was a little emotional when she said a few words for her Mama and Pap.
But the crowd cheered her on.
And Neil was at her side of course.
Time for them to renew their vows to each other.
I wasn’t burdened with pressure so I walked near and far and thought this was a cool angle.
The sunset was really nice.

We were blessed with a really nice weather.
The final prayer lit by the beautiful setting sun.

Friends and family celebrated with Gen and Neil.
Marvelous day, I must say.
And of we go.
To the reception.
When the light disappeared, I felt powerless. Hahaha. Sorry iPhone.
But I still pushed it to the very end.
Ohhh and the iPhone can do this too. These are embers from the bonfire.
And finally, it was time to call it a day.

In the end, let me say that experience plays a role too. I would have a major problem if I wasn’t shooting weddings. So the fact that I kind of knew the ebb and flow, using the iPhone wasn’t really a big issue. Plus there were real photographers on site. But that is also not to say that the iPhone isn’t legit. I’ve seen a blog of someone using the iPhone for an Indian Wedding and it was a beautiful. I hope I did justice to Gen and Neil’s wedding. Thank You again Gen and Neill. Marlon and Mildred for being cool. Jake and Kat of Team Panda for being cool as well. There you go.
You did soooo well as I expected Tweeeeen!!! I wouldn’t think i could do it if i tried? hahah The right mindset sure made it all work out! ninduuutaaaa oi!!! Not all can do it like you did!!! aand sooon enough you’re gonna start the trend there in Cebu or Pinas weddings 👏👏👏because why not?!!!
